MINEA foresees 5,000 megawatts production for Laúca Dam

Huila , Lubango - The Ministry of Energy and Water (MINEA) has said that it intends to build the Laúca Dam, in northern Kwanza Norte Province, to provide 5,000 Megawatts of its installed capacity by 2017, while the rehabilitating process of Cambambe and Matala Dams and the construction of central Cambambe II and Soyo are in progress. The information was released Friday in Lubango City, southern Huila Province, by minister João Baptista Borges, at the end of the 2nd Consultative Council of the sector. The official also spoke of the installation of 500 megawatts of Thermal capacity to be operated until next December in several provinces. According to the minister, the government will also launch the tender for the construction of Dam with capacity of 2,100 Megawatts in Caculo Cabaça, and rehabilitation of another one in Luachimo, with capacity of 32 MW, in eastern Lunda Norte Province. The government also foresees the construction of Chiumbe Dala Dam(12 MW), in Lunda Sul Province, and the Luena connection (Moxico Province). According to him, with the incorporation of mini-dams, non-conventional renewable energies and natural gas, Angola will be among the few world’s countries to meet about 85 percent of its needs in clean energy. The second Broad Consultative Council of Ministry of Energy and Water was held between 28 and June and happened under the motto "Investing in sustainable energy and water for all ".
