Malian ombudsman in Luanda for meeting

Angola, Luanda – The ombudsman of the Republic of Mali, Djingo Cissoko, arrived Tuesday afternoon in Luanda to attend the meeting on coordination of the Memorandum of Understanding between the African Union (AU) and the African Ombudsman and Mediators Association (AOMA) from June 20-25.Speaking to the press on arrival at Luanda’s “4 de Fevereiro” International Airport, the Malian magistrate said he has come to make a contribution to the success of the event that is bringing together the African ombudsman and mediators.Djingo Cissoko, who also holds the deputy chair of AOMA, said he was happy to realise the people of Angola is now enjoying peace, stability and development.“Angola is a country with which we have good cooperation relations and, as an example, we recall that who was once the mediator in the peace at a moment of crisis the country was going through, we are talking about Maitre Allioune Blondin Beye,” he stated.Commenting on the situation prevailing in his country since March this year, he stated that bit by bit the situation is getting normalised, an evidence of this being his coming to Angola.Angola currently chairs AOMA that came about between 1990 and 1997, during the regional conferences of Khartoum (Sudan), then called African Ombudsman Centre (AOC). It only gained shape on 26 June 2001, in Victoria, Seychelles.In 2002, the organisation drafted its statute text in Windhoek (Namibia), that was ratified a year later, during the 8th African Conference of Ouagadougou, Bourkina Faso, when the organisation eventually gained the current designation.
