Malaria cases reduce to 10 percent
Angola, Luanda – The malaria infection rate in the country has reduced to 10 percent, as a result of the actions developed by the Health Ministry and its partners aiming at combating the sickness in the communities.According to information released this Tuesday in Luanda, during the presentation of the assessment report on malaria infection in Angola, the greatest infection was registered in the children aged between six months and five years old, being 14 times higher in the children of rural zones than in the urban areas.The coordinator of malaria combat programme, Filomeno Fortes, told ANGOP that the infection by malaria reduced a lot compared with the inquire carried out in 2006.The source said that in the mentioned period, 21 percent of the children aged from six months to five years old were infected, while by the year 2011, the number was of 13 percent, based on the quick tests done.Filomeno Fortes said that according to the national programme of malaria control there are four endemic regions in Angola, namely a hyper-endemic which is the zone with high transmission, the meso-endemic stable with a relatively low transmission and a meso-endemic unstable which is the lowest happening in Luanda province, the country’s biggest urban region.
