Justice assistance to cover prisons - Attorney General

Angola,  Luanda – The Angolan Attorney General, João Maria de Sousa, defended on Tuesday in Luanda that the Justice Assistance in the country will also cover prisons, so that the public defenders may better monitor the prisoners.João Maria de Sousa said so to Angop during the seminar on “Public Defender as guarantee of Access to law and Justice”, organised by the Ministry of Justice.Speaking about the brazilian experience, the Attorney General said that public defence Office is entitled to provide fully and free legal assistance to people that can not afford the payment of a lawyer’s service.According to him, the magistrate of the prosecuting counsel, the public defenders is a political agent for a social change that does not integrate the public and private advocacy because it is independent in the exercise of its function.The seminar was attended by magistrates, lawyers, law students and staff of justice administration, Brazilian public defenders, Holden Macedo da Silva and Cleber Francisco Alves.
