Environmental study in mining defended
Luanda , Luanda - The environmentalist Vladimir Russo Monday in Luanda spoke of the need for environmental impact studies before exploitation of minerals starts, in order to preserve the welfare of citizens. Speaking to ANGOP, the expert stressed it is important for mineral exploration licensees to conduct an environmental impact study. According to the environmentalist, impact study helps the promoter to characterise the area and define what should be preserved. He added that, similarly, it will help the promoter and State to exploit minerals in a sustainable manner and mitigate the impacts on the environment. In his view, civil construction companies and private persons should see the environmental impact study not as a requirement of legislation, but as a tool for improving the environmental performance of their projects.
