Engagement of Air Force highlighted

Angola, Luanda - The performance of the staff of the Angolan Air Force (FAN) at all levels in securing the defence and safeguard of the national sovereignty was highlighted Saturday in Luanda by the chief of staff of the Angolan Armed Forces, gen. Geraldo Sachipengo Nunda.  The praise is contained in a message signed out by gen. Geraldo Sachipengo Nunda.  The message reached Angop on Saturday, as part of the celebrations of FAN’s 36th anniversary, on January 21.  The note says the role of the FAN in the military component of the defence of the country is beyond any dispute.  According to the source, discipline, cohesion, and permanent upgrading of the levels of operational readiness and patriotic sentiment are qualities required from all FAN staff, so they continue being the bulwark of the defence of the national air space and pride for the Angolan nation.    On January 21, 1976, the first and late Angolan president, António Agostinho Neto, visited the then Air Base I, in Luanda, where he proclaimed the People’s Air Force of Angola/Air Defence (FAPA/DAA) that evolved into what is now known as the FAN.
