CNE slams political parties over use of airtime

Luanda, Luanda - The National Electoral Commission Thursday in Luanda slammed political participants contesting the general election of August 31 this year for what it considers inappropriate use of electoral campaign airtimes.This was said to journalists by CNE spokesperson, Julia Ferreira, at the end of the body’s 15th plenary ordinary session chaired by its chairman, Andre Silva Neto.  According to CNE spokesperson, political parties are using their radio and television airtimes to air messages and images that transmit instability.Júlia Ferreira said in the course of ten the days of the election campaign, CNE has found that parties are using their airtime in an appropriate way, choosing to air messages liable of stimulating violence, rather than those suitable for a democratic and lawful State.To her, such political parties are breaking the electoral legislation, especially regarding the Code of Conduct.She said institutions have been receiving specific denounces and citizens and the civil society at large are showing signs of concern over the issue.The official said as well that CNE, as election supervising body is also concerned about the phenomenon.She then appealed for the transmission of messages of peace, harmony, tranquillity, focusing on their projects, electoral strategies and manifestos.Júlia Ferreira also announced that CNE will soon release a general warning to all political parties, urging them to abide by the Angolan Constitution and the laws in force in the country.
