Changes in designation of Prosecuting Council organs considered

Angola, Luanda - The designation of individual organs of the Prosecuring Counsel might record slight changes with the inclusion of the Sub-Attorney General's Office categories, replacing the current Provincial Prosecutor's Office. The innovation follows the introduction of Preliminary Draft Organic Law of the Attorney General's Office, under the final review at Parliament. This also provides for the creation of the figure of Attorney (previous deputy provincial prosecutor) and the Deputy Prosecutor of the Republic (former municipal prosecutor of the Republic). Thus, the process is seeking to remove any reference to the category of administrative division of the country. According to the current structure, the figures like those of the Attorney General, the deputy Attorneys General and assistant Attorneys General, remain. The ruling MPLA party’s parliamentary bench, says that the initiative is intended to adjust the structure of Prosecuting Council’s Magistrate Office to the future judicial division, which foresees the existence of Courts of Appeal and District. The sub-prosecuting council is tasked to represent, direct, coordinate and control the Attorney General’s Office in jurisdiction of the District or Provincial Court, as well as supervise and control the democratic legality.
