Candidacies a political parties' task - Court

Luanda, Luanda – The Angolan Constitutional Court (TC) said Wednesday in Luanda that in terms of the concerned law, only the leadership of legally established political parties are legitimately entitled to nominating candidates for the election. This was said by the head of the TC’s Office for Political Parties, Marcy Lopes, during a press conference called for an assessment of the process that went from May 31 to June 19.The explanation followed the rejection on Tuesday (June 19), as invalid, by the TC of the candidacy for the coming general elections, of the list put forward by Ngola Kabangu, one of the leaders of the two FNLA factions. Marcy Lopes further explained that the FNLA faction legally registered with the TC is the one led by Ngola Kabangu’s rival, Lucas Ngonda, hence the rejection of the list put forward by the former. He added that FNLA case was not the only one, mentioning that of UNDNA whose legally recognised president presented a candidacy, while members of a non-registered faction of the party attempted to submit a different file.
