AU sets challenges to combat poverty

Angola, Luanda – The Commissioner of the African Union for Infrastructures and Energy , Elham Ibrahim, set as challenge the continent competitiveness to combat poverty efficiently, by reducing transport cost at world average. The official said so on Thursday during the opening ceremony of the second African Union conference of the Transport Ministers (CAMT-II), taking place in Luanda under the motto “Consolidating transport sector to stimulate economic integration of Africa”.She said that to reach this objective it is needed to improve infrastructures, so as to resolve the problems faced the sector. The commissioner said that transports in Africa are no longer playing the role of facilitators of the economic and social development and became barriers. The AU official informed that the African union Commission, together with its partners, is working to guarantee the implementation of all African regional programmes, depending on the transport sector that were formulated in the past, including projects to facilitate the conclusion of lacking links and thus improve simplification of regional transports.
