Angolan vice president presides over SADC Essay, Media prize handover
Mozambique, Maputo – The Angolan vice president, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, Friday in Maputo (Mozambique), presided over the ceremony of hand-over of the prizes for the 2011 Essay Competition and Media Award to Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) winning journalists and secondary students. This was during the opening of the 32nd Summit of the SADC Heads of State and Government. Fernando da Piedade acted on behalf of Angolan head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, outgoing chairman of the regional organisation. The 2011 edition of SADC media award in the print category was won by Zambian Patson Phiri, by Mauritian Jugdish Parsadee Jatoo (television), Tsuna Yobe Shonga (photojournalism). The journalism award for the water category was won by Zimbabwean Faxtomore Dzobo, while Mozambican Belmiro Mangaze got the radio category prize. Ramakaye Walter RAmakaye, from Lesotho, won the photojournalism prize. Meanwhile, the 2011 SADC Essay Competition was won by Muradzikwa (Zimbabwe), followed by Elijah Tsheko (Botswana) and Magdalena Antoninu (Namíbia) who came third.
