Accidents kill 100 in four months
Angola, Huambo – At least 100 people were killed and 298 others injured in 317 road accidents from January to April this year in central Huambo province, Angop learned Saturday here.The information was released by the spokesperson for the National Police command in the province, Fernando Mação.In comparison with the previous four months, according to the source, there has been a drop of seven road accidents, one death and five injuries.Fernando Mação explained that the drop in the rate of accidents and casualties follows an intensification by the National Police of their awareness raising action in the province as from early this year, with car drivers and motorbike riders told to observe road traffic rules.He said the 317 accidents caused damage estimated at Akz 19.3 million (Usd 1 is Akz 95), with over-speed, reckless and drunken driving and vehicle’s poor technical condition mentioned as main cause.
