Experimental train reaches Luena city

Moxico,  Luena – The experimental train on the Kuito (central Bie province)/Luena (eastern Moxico) route reached destination on Tuesday, after 30 years out operation of the Benguela Railway (CFB) due to the armed conflict that ravaged the country. Aboard of the train in the experimental trip were the minister of Transport, Augusto da Silva Tomás, accompanied by members of the Government and the CEO of CFB.

Libolo vs Petro tops Cup quarter-finals

Luanda, Luanda – Recreativo do Libolo and Petro-Atlético de Luanda will be playing on September 26 in Calulo town, central Kwanza Sul province, for the quarter finals of the Angola Football Cup, according to a draw. Libolo (cup holder) is currently at the lead of the 2012 competition (Girabola) with 49 points, while Petro-Atletico comes third with 36 points. According to the draw of Tuesday in Luanda, Interclube will be visiting Recreativo da Caála do Huambo.

CASA-CE to stand against ruling party only

Luanda,  Luanda – The coordinator of the Broad Convergence for Angola’s Salvation-Electoral Coalition (CASA-CE)’s electoral campaign, André Gaspar Mendes de Carvalho, said Tuesday in Luanda his organisation will stand against the ruling MPLA party alone. André Mendes de Carvalho was speaking at the inauguration of the National Headquarters for Coordination of the Electoral Campaign of CASA-CE.

Media organs told to apply for accreditation 20 days ahead of voting

Luanda, Luanda – The media  organs, both local and foreign, must apply for accreditation of their journalists with the National Electoral Communication (CNE) 20 days ahead of the election set for August 31 this year. This was said Tuesday in Luanda by CNE spokesperson, Júlia Ferreira, while speaking to journalists at the end of the 8th extraordinary session of the body led by André Silva Neto.

Opposition CASA-CE starts election campaign

Luanda, Luanda – The Broad Convergence for Angola’s Salvation-Electoral Coalition (CASA-CE) inaugurated its electoral campaign on the State-run Rádio Nacional de Angola broadcasting station (RNA), calling on Angolans to vote in the election of August 31 this year. During the 10-minute airtime allocated to the coalition, the organisation mentioned the constitutionally enshrined right for demonstration and read out a message delivered by the president, Abel Chivukuvuku.

Ugandan president in Luanda

Luanda,   Luanda - The president of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Musseveni, arrived Tuesday evening in the Angolan capital, Luanda, for an official visit, as part of the effort to re-launch bilateral relations between the two countries.The Ugandan president was welcomed at Luanda’s “4 de Fevereiro” International Airport by the Social Welfare minister, João Baptista Kussumua, and the secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Manuel Augusto.

CASA-CE headquarters to monitor all country

Angola, Luanda – The National Headquarters for Coordination of the Electoral Campaign of the Broad Convergence for Angola’s Salvation- Electoral Coalition (CASA-CE) will monitor the whole campaigning of the political organisation, Angop learned Tuesday in Luanda. This was announced by the deputy of the head of CASA-CE election list, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, during the inauguration of the said headquarters. 

African women contribution to fight against discrimination highlighted

Angola, Yeosu – The minister of Family and Women Promotion, Genoveva Lino, Tuesday in Yeosu, South Korea, highlighted the contribution of the African women, particularly Angolans, to the fight against discrimination of females in the continent.The minister was speaking at the ceremony marking the July 31, African Women Day, during an event promoted by Angola’s pavilion at the Yeosu Universal Exhibition taking place this year in that Asian country. 

CPO pledges to fight illiteracy

Angola, Luanda – The vice president of the coalition Opposition Political Council (CPO), João Mateus Jorge, announced Tuesday in Luanda that his organisation will prioritise the eradication of illiteracy and implementation of a free education system in the country. The politician who was speaking to journalists at the end of the presentation of his organisation’s electoral manifesto, said education is a factor of development of any State, and all its resources should be used in a rational way in favour of all Angolans.

Water pump plant to support agriculture - Oil minister

Luanda, Luanda – Angola’s Oil minister, Botelho de Vasconcelos, Tuesday in Luanda said that the water pump factory that was inaugurated Tuesday on the outskirts of the capital city, will support the sectors of agriculture, civil construction and especially the petrochemical industry. The minister said so to the press at the end of the inauguration of the said plant in the Luanda-Bengo Special Economic Zone (ZEE).
