Eritrean athlete wins yearend race

Angola, Luanda – Zersenay Tadese, from Eritrea, won the 56th edition of the Luanda Yearend Race, also dubbed Saint Sylvester. The Eritrean won the race with 27 minutes and 44 seconds.

Geology and Mining sector shows signs of rebirth

Angola, Luanda – The start in 2011 of prospecting activities on natural resources such as diamonds, phosphate, copper, gold, as well as in rare lands and the Cassinga minerals complex, re-launched the sector of Geology and Mining, which was on a standstill for some years.   Thus, throughout the year, it was possible to see some commitment from the mentioned sector with activities such as the exploration of gold and copper. 

Political, socio-recreational events mark martyrs' day celebrations

Angola, Luanda – The celebrations of the Colonial Repression Martyrs’ Day, to be marked on 4 January, include several political and socio-recreational activities.    A note from the Territory Administration Ministry, distributed in Luanda, instruct that the celebrations go until 15 January under the motto “Let us honour our heroes, promoting wellbeing of all Angolans”.  

Vice governor highlights commitment to clearing solid residues

Angola, Luanda – The vice governor of Luanda Province for economic and productive sector, Miguel Catraio, said last Friday in Viana District that the big campaign being carried out by the provincial government, in partnership with the provincial committee of the ruling MPLA party, indicates that the local executive is really committed to solid residues clearance. The minister said so at the cleaning campaign carried out by the city’s railway route in Viana District. 

University lecturers to gain statute in 2012

Angola, Luanda – The minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Maria Cândida Teixeira, last Friday in Luanda informed that, in the year 2012, her institution will press for the approval the statute for university lecturers, among other things. 

Govt to grant 6000 scholarships in 2012

Angola, Luanda – The minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Maria Cândida Teixeira, last Friday in Luanda announced that her governmental department will  grant, next year, six thousand scholarships (internal and external ones), which added to the already existing ones will make a total of 15.000. 

Luanda governor encourages participants in cleaning campaign along railway

Luanda, Luanda - The governor of Luanda province Bento Sebastião Francisco Bento encouraged Friday the participants involved in collection campaign of solid waste dumped  along the railway line. The governor, who travelled by locomotive during a visiting field, from Textang station (Ingombota) to Viana, was accompanied by vice governors for political and social sphere as well as economic and productive, Jovelina Imperial and Miguel Catraio, respectively. 

African Union to Hear Cabindans on Rights Complaints

More than five years after the Front for the Liberation of Cabinda (FLEC) filed a complaint with the African Union (AU) against the Angolan government for alleged human rights abuses, the AU says it is willing to hear the "merits" of appointing a special rapporteur to investigate the claims.

Government indicates sites for fireworks display at New Year’s Eve

Angola, Luanda - Luanda Government (GPL) indicated the public places to launch fireworks on the eve of New Year. Among the selected places, the provincial director of Culture, Manuel Sebastião, referred to Luanda Marginal and at the former "Roque Santeiro" market, in the localities of Ingombota and Sambizanga. 

Governor highlights media expansion

Angola, Ndalatando - The governor of the northern Kwanza Norte province, Henrique André Junior, said to be pleased with the expansion and performance of the local media during the year 2011. According to the governor, who was speaking during traditional yearend greeting ceremony on Friday, the local media sector benefited from the significant achievements.
