President ends visit to Huambo

Huambo,  Huambo - Angolan head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, ended Tuesday his few-hour working visit to the central highland Huambo province, aimed at assessing the ongoing level of development in the region. Accompanied by the first lady, Ana Paula dos Santos, the head of the government was welcomed, at Huambo’s "Albano Machado" airport, by the local residents and government officials, as well as members of civil society. 

Ombudsman visits Viana penitentiary

Angola, Luanda – The Angolan ombudsman, Paulo Tjipilica, Tuesday in Luanda, visited the Viana penitentiary to learn about the real situation and functioning of the prison and hear from inmates. Paulo Tjipilica toured the male and female wards where he learned of the process of social integration, moral and religious education, assistance to expectant mothers, as well as food cooking and distribution.He also learned of the overcrowding of the prisons currently holding 4,000 prisoners, 3,800 males.

President announces train in Bié, Moxico soon

Angola, Huambo - Angolan president, José Eduardo dos Santos, said Tuesday that “our goal does not stops here but will be extended to the central and eastern provinces of Bié and Moxico, respectively, as well as to the border".The Angolan head of Stated announced this while addressing thousands of people in central Huambo province, as part of his few-hour visit to the central Huambo province.

Inter-urban railway traffic between Lobito and Benguela reopens

Benguela, Benguela – The minister of Transports, Augusto da Silva Tomás, reopened on Monday the railway traffic between the districts of Benguela and Lobito both in the coastal province of Benguela (centre). The resumption of the rail traffic was preceded by the inauguration of the new carriages made by the incumbent minister of transport and was blessed by the Catholic Bishop, Dom Eugénio Del Corso. 

Minister pleased with food, drinking water analysis process

Luanda, Luanda – Angolan minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Maria Candida Teixeira Tuesday expressed satisfaction over the analysis process of food and clean water conducted by National Public Health Institute. The government minister expressed this during her visit to the institute, as part of assessing visit to the Scientific Research centres, aimed at learning about the laboratory equipment and technical support.

14 new national preservation areas listed

Angola, Luanda – Fourteen new national priority areas of preservation located in various provinces of the country have been listed by the Ministry of Environment with a view to the creation of ecologic stability, adaptation to climate changes and human wellbeing.Of the 14 areas, stress goes to the Maiombe National Parks (northern Cabinda province), Mavinga and Luengué-Luiana (south-eastern Kuando Kubando), whose draft laws were reviewed by the Cabinet Council, during its latest session of July 27, now awaiting National Assembly (Angola Parliament) approval.

Angola receives proposal to address poliomyelitis challenges

Angola, Luanda - Angola, Chad and DRC have been proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO) for a full implementation of their recently elaborated plans to stop the transmission of the wild virus of poliomyelitis until the end of 2011.The proposal comes due to these countries failure for second stage on the circulation of the poliovirus, validated when it was spent at least 12 months with no cases of polio related to the viruses.These countries should also improve the quality in the activities of vaccination and reinforce the campaign.

Over 20 refugees back home

Angola/Zaire, Mbanza Kongo - At least 29 Angolan citizens who were living in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as refugees returned home, said Tuesday, the provincial director of Social Welfare, Madalena das Dores.  Speaking to ANGOP, the director said that these compatriots, comprising three families, returned to Angola on their own through the border post of Noqui, Zaire Province.
