Rosebank residents, buildings not at risk

Johannesburg - Buildings and homes surrounding the collapsed portion of Oxford Road are not at risk of sinking, says Chief Executive Officer of the Gautrain Management Agency, Jack van der Merwe.
A large sinkhole formed on a section of the road between North Road and Eighth Avenue in Rosebank on Tuesday during underground drilling for the Gautrain project.
Briefing reporters on the incident on Wednesday, Mr van der Merwe said the all structures in the vicinity have been continuously monitored and remain stable.
New Foreign Affairs office to unify services

Pretoria - The Foreign Affairs Head Office, being built on Government Avenue near the Union Buildings, will bring the department's services closer together, said Foreign Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma.
The new building will incorporate staff currently housed in five different locations around Pretoria.
Gautrain reaches a major milestone

Derby - The Gautrain has reached a major milestone in its delivery of world-class public transport to South Africa, said Gauteng Premier Mbhazima Shilowa on Tuesday.
Mr Shilowa was speaking in Derby, England, shortly after he received the first four-car train set branded in the Gautrain's distinctive golden colour.
"Bearing the pride of the nation, Gautrain has reached a major milestone in its delivery of world-class public transport to South Africa.
Oxford Road Collapses

Johannesburg - Measures are being taken to re-open Oxford Road, between North Road and 8th Avenue in Rosebank, after a portion of the road collapsed on Tuesday.
The collapse occurred during drilling for the Gautrain project underneath the road.
Wayne Minnaar, Johannesburg Metro Police Department spokesperson, said the road collapsed, forming a hole measuring about 12 by 8 metres.
He said it was filled with water, making it difficult to determine the depth.
PE Stadium falls behind schedule - left out of Confederations Cup

Johannesburg - The 2010 Local Organising Committee (LOC) on Tuesday announced that the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth has been removed from the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup schedule but remains one of the 2010 FIFA World Cup venues.
LOC Chairperson Dr Irvin Khoza told reporters that the LOC Board of Directors took the decision to remove Nelson Mandela Bay from the cup schedule after receiving a report from the technical team.
